Mamarazzi!

One my friends and very loyal clients stopped by my house with her new SLR and baby boy to pick up some tips on how to use an SLR! She was already armed with book knowledge and experience from her 3 kids, so it was a breeze and I think she’s gonna take off with that thing!

Here are some basic tips for anyone with an SLR.. or even not!
1. Turn off the flash!
I shudder anytime I see that flash pop up and the natural lighting is already so perfect! Just dont do it.

2. Venture off AUTO mode (aka the little green box).
If you’re just starting out and you have an SLR try A or Av mode. In this mode you select what aperture or f-stop you want to use and the camera will select a shutter speed to match. Make sure to crank that f-stop down to a smaller number for brighter image with lots of depth of field (aka a blurry background). THEN take notes on what the camera selected so you can shoot in manual!

3. Look for good light.
Windows = good. Sunset/Sunrise = good. Shade = good… Mid-day sun = bad. No windows = bad. fluorescent = terrible. I can’t stand to look at myself in fluorescent lighting.

4. Creative cropping
I am a frequent head in half chopper or little hands and toes grabber. Try to look deeper and tighter into the image.

5. Rapid Fire
This might seem like a no brainer, but take a TON of photos from every angle. You’re bound to get more keepers!

Dont Cut Your Own Hair!

Not that you really care about my hair but I think I’ve had my share of good and bad hair cuts. As a toddler I had crazy curly hair, much like my daughters do. My sisters nick named me “windows” in elementary school because I parted my hair right in the middle and tucked it behind my ears which made them looks like curtains. Then, was a mullet-esque cut, which was done in the name of hair salon, I have to find the photos from that, they are crazy! Then I think I grew my hair out really, really long and in high school I chopped it all off and died it abnormal colors like green, bright red and black. After that I went on strike and only cut my hair only when nessecary, I think I once went 2 years without a cut, which brought me up to my former hair. Then I decided it was time for a new hair era in my life, I felt like I wasn’t looking like me, which leads me to now having bangs. I’m still not 100% sure on them, I’ll probably end up growing them out a bit and keeping them longer but I do like them. They are new, fun, and I feel a little more me and a little more put together. I took a photo when I got home last night and I took one with Riley this morning and had to post it because I look like my mom!

Blame it on the Winter!

I think I need to live somewhere, where it’s eternally warm and sunny. I’d be happy if I saw snow once a year and if I never did again, I don’t think I’d miss it. Winter, cold, getting dark at 5 just depresses me. I don’t want to see my own breathe outside, or go outside at all. The second I’m cold, I’m either complaining or it completely shocks my system into being quiet or on a rare occasion I act delirious. I hate cold houses, cold restaurant and cold cars. I personally keep my house like a sauna, and act like I’m paralyzed in a cold car. When there’s a cloud in the sky, I just want to lay in bed all day. I might be a whiney baby but if you never hear from me again it’s because I’m somewhere warm.

On a completely different note, the winter possessed me again at midnight last night and I decided I wanted bangs. So I broke out my scissors and started hacking away. Well I don’t think I need to to tell you how this ended but I’m going to the salon in 4 hours. I’ll post pictures of my new, professional, do. Two lessons learned: 1.Leave it to the professionals and 2.No idea past midnight is a good idea.

And some new pictures of the babys!!
